Tried this on a 2.0.6 build and the error goes silently into the error log instead. 2.0.7 hard-fails on SQL errors (correctly) whereas 2.0.6 doesn’t, but logs the error instead.

This issue is closed.
When using the author field (in my test case, with multiple selection enabled) when no author is selected, Symphony will throw an error complaining the field data is null.
