We are currently updating a festival site with a members area that provides data from over 12 years. The problem is, people tend to forget their passwords which is why I thought about removing the need for passwords all together and switch to a different login system:

Each time you'd like to access the site for the first time after logout, you'll have to enter your username and the system will sends you a mail with a custom login link (containing an authorisation token that's valid for a certain time). Similar so an account activation e-mail.

Has anyone done something similar with the Members extension already? Any hints where to start?
