is it possible, without using members extension, to log in/reset password a symphony user via a frontend form ?

I 've used this form once on my maintenance page:

<form action="/symphony/" method="post" class="maintenance">
  <div class="form-group">
    <div class="form-item">
      <label>Gebruikersnaam<input name="username" type="text" /></label>
    </div>
    <div class="form-item">
      <label>Wachtwoord<input name="password" type="password" /></label>
    </div>
  </div>
  <input name="action[login]" type="submit" value="Login" />
  <input name="redirect" type="hidden" value="/" />
</form>

thank you
