It finally came! Symphony 2.5.3 RC is available here!. Testers are more than encouraged to download it and report feedback on github.

The official release date should be in one week, February 19th 2015.

This release is a hotfix release and contains only bug fixes, so updating to it should really be painless and 100% compatible with extensions that required 2.5.2. It's also a community release since it's mostly pull requests and bug fixes reported by the community. Props to you!!

If you are curious about the actual things included in this release, please check this page.

Also, from now on, Symphony uses Semantic Versioning. This means that we will be able to retro-patch other versions that the one where we do most of our work. Also, Pull Requests are welcome on the 2.5.x and 2.6.x branches (integration branch will be dropped after 2.6.0).

For those curious, this release is our first foray into backporting fixes that were discovered during 2.6.0 development to an existing series of releases. As 2.6.0 will contain breaking changes for some installations, a 2.5.3 release allows developers to update their existing installation's with greater confidence than before.

This release contains the following fixes:

  • #2345 Fix duplicate key error when requesting a password reset
  • #2259 Fix datasource indentation when generating on Windows
  • #2255 Fix fatal error when requesting password reset
  • #2235 No longer throw errors when the variable syntax is used for pagination settings on Datasources
  • Fixed issue where empty query is attached to publish URLs
  • Set a proper HTTP Status on XSLT error to prevent search engines from indexing the page
  • Use function gzopen64 if gzopen is not present

Shortly following this release, a 2.6.0 Release Candidate will be issued. While it will be recommended that all developers update installations to 2.6, we also realise that some developers may want to spend more time verifying their existing sites with this build, hence the split release.

As 2.6.0 will contain breaking changes for some installations, a 2.5.3 release allows developers to update their existing installation's with greater confidence than before.

Just to clarify, 2.6.0 shouldn't contain any breaking changes for installations that are already on 2.5.x.
