A new extension, “Author Login” is now available for download. Comments and feedback can be left here but if you discover any issues, please post it on the issue tracker.

Please note that this extension is no longer necessary as of Symphony 2.3. According to Brendan Abbott (@brendo) in his comment in the thread Exception after upgrading: 'Could not find Event':

Login event from the 2.2.5 /workspace was replaced with Logged In Author event.

You'll find in the README for the Symphony Default Workspace the following information:

If you are updating your default workspace to 2.3, please note that you will need to remove the Login event from your pages and instead attach the the Logged In Author datasource.

So, as of Symphony 2.3, this extension has been deprecated in favour of using the Logged in Author data source.

I did some further tests, just to make sure that the $author-id parameter functionality won't be missed. The Output Parameters for the Logged in Author data source can be configured to output the following fields:

  • $ds-logged-in-author.id
  • $ds-logged-in-author.username
  • $ds-logged-in-author.name
  • $ds-logged-in-author.email
  • $ds-logged-in-author.user_type

So, I'm pretty confident that you'll be able to manage the same functionality and more without this old extension.
