A new extension, “Strong Author Passwords” is now available for download. Comments and feedback can be left here but if you discover any issues, please post it on the issue tracker.

That is a very cool idea, Nick! It should be noted, however, that the extension does not perform a server-side check. If the user switches off JavaScript, he can still use the name of his cat as password. So in the README:

The user can not complete the form unless all rules are satisfied.

You might add “…as long as JavaScript is activated in the browser.” or something like this.

Yes indeed. I see this more of a way to stop users being stupid. If they disable JavaScript then they should be free to be as stupid as they wish, in a system that assumes JavaScript is enabled.
