what you're describing can probably best be solved by data source chaining. have a data source for categories with name as the filter and url as the output parameter.

then filter your data source for the section you're showing us by the output parameter for the categories data source (something like $ds-category-by-name).

It's amazing that I have not noticed this mechanism (data source chaining) in the standard Symphony (Articles - Comments).
