Best practice for Images in extensions

Okay, the better way is to store them in /extensions/$extension_name/asset/. I didn't thought that through, so never mind me.

Hi,
I'm working on an exension with images. My idea was that I copy the required images on install() in workspace/uploads in a seperate directory and delete them when the extension gets uninstalled.
Is that the best way to make images available or is there a better way to do this?
