How is this different from / better than TinyMCE or CKEditor?

Maybe you want to participate in our discussion about WYSIWYG and provide some additional insights... ;)

elRTE is similar to TinyMCE and I trust using Htmlpurifer than tidyHTML

I am afraid that have not strong arguments in favor of elRTE. Most likely this is a matter of taste and my personal preferences.

The following reasons are important for me:

  • it uses frameworks: jQuery and jQuery-UI well then much less curly code. lightweight
  • it is younger than TinyMCE and does not need to cater to a legacy past
  • elRTE and elFinder are very well integrated.
  • code hightlighting (sometimes dip deeper in the code)

elRTE v2 seems to me particularly attractive. It has so good design, full API and flexible for extensions
