I thought I've read somewhere that this parameter is going to be removed in future editions of Symphony.

Is this true (hope not) or is it still safe (and futureproof) to use $this->_env in my custom datasources?

If not, what's the alternative? I've tried Frontend::instance()->Page()->Env() but that doesn't give all the results that $this->_env does.

Ah wait, I found Frontend::instance()->Page()->Params(). Is this the new way to go on this one?
