The Symphony 2.3.1 release extends on the major 2.3 release by improving the stability, security and usability of Symphony. The Providers concept was introduced in 2.3 with Datasources and has been extended in 2.3.1 to include Events which opens up a new range of possibilities for extension developers.

Symphony 2.3 is the next major release that aims to improve the user experience of the Symphony backend, make JSON a new best friend and provide some timely updates to the Datasource and Field classes.
This release fixes critical issues with the Date and Select Box Link fields which were introduced in Symphony 2.2.4. In addition, this release fixes some issues with special characters in the backend. All users are encouraged to update to Symphony 2.2.5.
