Nicolas Mezzanatto

Director

Nicolas Mezzanatto is an Iraq combat veteran turned film director. After serving a harrowing tour in southern Baghdad with the 101st Airborne 1-502nd Infantry, of which the book BLACK HEARTS (Jim Frederick) was written, he moved back to Portland Oregon to pursue a career in movie making. Struggling with chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) he focused his experience into the creation of a short film revolving around the pains of post war reintegration titled “VERDICT.” Starring Kristina Anapau (Black Swan) and produced by veteran filmmaker Brett Donowho (The Music Within, The Box, The Speak).

After proving himself with a solid short narrative he was hired on as 1st Assistant Director for “THE SPEAK” a cutting edge thriller starring Tom Sizemore (Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Heat). With a no nonsense “calm within the storm” mentality, tooled with a intimate knowledge of the reaches of emotion within the human psyche, he writes and creates films that cut to the core.

Growing up in Santa Paula California Joshua was exposed to filmmaking at a young age which sparked a fire that was never to rest. After serving four years as a leader and crew chief in the US Air Force with a deployment to Iraq with the Joint Security Forces, Joshua embarked on his journey as a writer and producer. After writing many screenplays that circulated the United States he executed his first film “Verdict,” a short film about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which he wrote and produced which has been accepted to both the GI Film Festival in Washington DC as well as the Big Island Film Festival in Hawaii.

Joshua has a sixth sense for talent and from extensive leadership training runs a tight efficient set where economy and respect are king. A seamless blend of artist, leader, and visionary. Joshua is a creative producer in every sense of the word who believes zealously that the story and characters are the core of every film, everything else is the icing on the cake.
