Search

This isn’t only for Symphony, but I made a simple little thing that converts a tumblr-rb backup to XML using Jekyll. (Yes, I realize how crazy it is to go from tumblr to yaml to xml.) I figure I’m not the only person who ever needed to migrate from Tumblr to Symphony, right? At the very least it lets us get back entries into Symphony for a unified search, since Tumblr’s blog search is junk.

Once the XML has been generated, you can set up your section and use the XML importer. I think I got most of the kinks out (thanks for the help, @Nils), though there are two caveats: 1. The XML importer may sometimes get unhappy with random anchor links, even if they have no special characters and are wrapped in CDATAs, I don’t know why. 2. Tumblr is sometimes crap at generating XHTML, so you may have to end up going through and cleaning up code any HTML Tumblr generates (it’s much easier to deal with if the blog you’re importing uses markdown).
