@Allen makes reference to the up-and-coming Official Members Extension and @bauhouse then refers to the Frontend Members Extention. Are these the same? If not how are they different and why would a developer use one over the other?

“Official Members Extension” is the same as “Frontend Members Extension”, which is listed on the Extensions page as “Frontend Membership”, and on Github is actually called Members.

There should definitely remain a “frontend” somewhere in the name, since Symphony 2.1 is set to allow extensions to manage backend users, so the naming needs to be explicit.

This is also not to be confused with the aging “Front End Authentication“… which can possibly be retired now.
