Can you use the superglobals $_REQUEST or $_GET/$_POST?

I’m in the process of using Symphony to generate a web service, and while I think it will work out-of-the-box, I’m thinking about how to make Events more RESTful.
I was wondering how best to send GET params (either from the Page url params or just GET params) directly to an Event, just as POST data is.
Has anyone done this, or ever needed this?
