I would like to see if anyone has ideas about a type of extension or management that would be best for making Symphony (ie xsl)-based apps portable enough to be moved from on installation to another. To me, the most important missing piece is a way to namespace (or otherwise semantify) sections & their fields. If this was done, then apps could share common data structure (such as site user records for instance). Of course there would be quite a bit more than that to do, but having an open, simple way to manage data across apps is the most important.

The other major component would be a method by which to install an app, but this seems like parsing an xml file with an app package's data structure needs would be pretty simple (adding the sections and datasources).

Currently, I keep all my standard apps in a single ensemble, and only use the ones i need, but it would be much better to be able to share them individually.

Thoughts anyone?
