How would you guys approach building a hotel reservation system?

I'm building a website for small guest house and they need to have some kind of reservation system. There has to be ability to make reservations and search for available rooms within specified period...

I was thinking of creating 'reservations' section and then filtering search results against that...

Has anybody done something like this before? Any suggestions?
