I want all the author editing to be on the frontend, and have the author never arrive at the backend. I could setup a membership system, seperate from the system login. ( this extentionis the most recent I think).

But I could do without actually locking backend for the author, just avoiding it; Can't I have the default section to display on login set to be a frontpage instead? And can I build an event with frontpage login for the backend (redirecting to front on success, thats possible). Any pointer n how to achieve that, all the events in the default install are about adding entries and comments, but I have no clue how to modify them to login.

Worst case i can still use remote login.

Have you looked at the ensembles? They should give you an example of how to accomplish this. Or did you have something else in mind?
