Hello what is the difference between select box / select box link?

the difference is in the xml output. a select box will output static values where a select box link field allows you to link to entries in other sections via an @id

The difference is not only in the XML output, but more son in the way the relation gets stored. The SB stores the value as a string, the SBL stroes the realtionship by ID. So when you change an entry that is referenced via a SBL, you dont loose the relationship. On the other hand, with the SB you keep the original value.
