I'm trying to diagnose intermittent performance issues on a Symphony site hosted on Webfaction. A particularly slow load of the homepage with the profile devkit took 45.66 seconds, 45.59 of which were spent waiting for the server to respond.

Here's the output:

Total Database Queries 77
Slow Queries (> 0.09s) 48
Total Time Spent on Queries 19.2411 s
Time Triggering All Events 0.0000 s
Time Running All Data Sources 17.9467 s
XML Generation 0.0015 s
XSLT Transformation 0.0000 s
Output Creation Time 0.0000 s
Total Memory Usage 1.20 MB

Notice the amount of time spent on db queries and data sources. Slow database queries I understand but what is happening during the 'Time Running All Data Sources' phase? Does this include db time? I cant imagine how filtering and pagination could ever take this long.

It includes some of those queries as well.

I thought that might be the case. It leaves me with a lot of latency to account for though if Symphony only takes 20 of the 45 seconds spent server-side.
