Symphony::ExtensionManager()->notifyMembers('AddDefaultAuthorAreas', '/system/authors/', array('options' => &$options, 'default_area' => $author->get('default_area')));
This fixes it. I don’t have a working fork so if someone beats me to it, could this be committed for 2.2 please? The delegate is mostly useless without it :-)

Not near code but this is a reminder: the delegate for appending options to the Default Area dropdown in Authors needs the current saved value passed in the delegate callback too, so you can select the option you’re adding.
