Nick, does the following fix your issue?
input[type=checkbox] {
vertical-align: middle;
}
I can’t test it as I don’t experience this bug.

Replicable in Chrome 9 OSX. Yes this does fix :)

Uhm, it’s harder than I thought. Since every pair of browser/platform results in different UI controls (e.g. Chrome on Linux vs. Chrome on Mac), no two people see the same alignment.

I fear this is because we not align text to
baselinebut checkbox labels now look a bit broken.
