Hello chaps and chap-ettes!

I am currently looking around for ways to send automated emails with a symphony website of mine. I have been looking at third party services such as mandrill, but I am wondering if anybody here has ever managed to write a custom event which will send emails periodically after a specific event has fired (say a week afterwards as a follow up message).

Can anybody shed light or guide me towards a recommendation? Mandrill does look pretty good but I like having options

I think it would depend how and on what criteria you'd like to send the email.

We're currently using Mandrill to send all our mail; so we don't handle the SMTP Server anymore, and we get useful stats though we send emails via Symphony.

I haven't automated any reporting; but if you're planning to do this through symphony; you'd have to either trigger this when a user goes in backend or via an external request/cron.

I wouldn't suggest using a 'fake-cron' first user after xx day/time as this might give a very slow result to the poor guy.
