I'm trying to use the dates from a config section entry that I've set up as output parameters to filter another datasource using {$start} to {$finish} syntax, and for some reason I can't seem to get it to work.

I noticed the $ds-param output matches your date format preferences and that none of the defaults match the yyyy-mm-dd syntax. However, even when I add the correct date format as an option, it still seems to fail. Doing {$today} to 2008-20-01 works perfectly, but using the output parameter does not, even if in the ?debug view they appear identical.

Is this a bug of some sort, or I missing something?

This is a bug. $ds-param returns an array object even if there is only one item. If I recall correctly, Alistair has made a fix to this problem by casting the array to a string if only one item is returned. I'm not sure if he still has the file patch floating around somewhere.
