Hey Guys,

has anyone already tried to send the emails ssl encrypted? A client asked me to do so but i’m not sure wether that is useful or even possible. Any ideas?

Best regards

What exactly do you mean? I see two possible cases:

  • Connecting to your mail server via SSL. In this case your login details will be encrypted, and email contents will be encrypted as well on the way to your server, but: The email will be sent unencrypted from your server to the recipient’s server (and from there to the recipient, in most cases). So it will not mean that nobody can read the email.
  • Sending an encrypted mail body - this will require that the sender decrypts the message.

Out of the box Symphony will not “support” either idea.

[EDIT]: Symphony will send unencrypted emails using PHP’s mail() function. So it won’t even use a dedicated (SMTP) mail server.

The SMTP Email Library extension will allow you to establish connections to specific mail servers.
