How to limit the number of results on a data source?

You can limit a datasource in the 'sorting and limiting'-section in the datasource-editor.

I´m have a portifolio section, i need to limit the number of results to be shown in the front page by 3, and in the portifolio page (wich is not the front page ) i need to paginate all the results.
How do i limit the results of a data source?
