According to this thread in the bug tracker, it appears that author access settings will be an extension rather than a core feature.

The "Member Roles/Permissions" extension we are using for the new Symphony site/forum will eventually get this kind of functionality. At least, that's the plan. Stay tuned. :)

This thread is two years old! Have you checked out the Members extension for frontend roles? Or alternatively the backend Author Roles extension.

In 1.7, there was the option to "Allow access to following sections" in Settings > Author. Am I missing it in 2, or is yet to come?
