I’m confused, I’m using symphony 2.1.2, but it doesn’t have any of the features mentioned in the video.. umm??

If you check the date you’ll see the initial post is more than two years ago. A lot has changed then, and the Symphony 2 you see now is not the same as that planned in the video. What you see in the video ended up being the basis and inspiration for Symphony 3, which we hope will see light of day in 2011 :-)

This video was posted September 2008, while the first Symphony 2.0 release came after in December 2008, so this video was something of a prototype as the team went from developing Symphony 1.7 to 2.0.

In fact, some of the features described in Scott’s post are already available in Symphony 2 today:

  • Validation rules: implemented with regular expressions, although not as featured as described
  • Subsection field type: achieved with the Subsection Manager extension
  • No more section link field type: “section link” was removed, we have the Select Box Link field
  • Introspection field type: although not exactly the same, the Reflection field extension is similar
  • Data source omission rules: negation logic is coming in Symphony 2.2

@nickdunn thanks for the heads up. I did note the date and my version and yah, there was a disconnect.

Yah, I was looking for the “helpful texts”, field templates, the nice data source-isms ( http://see.weareinto.com/3iwt ), the nice “data sharing” discussed, and the fewer queries ( http://see.weareinto.com/3jG9 ) as it appears to still be in 4NF ( http://see.weareinto.com/3jdH )

btw, damn those Monday quizzes! http://see.weareinto.com/3jM4 how do I check my grades??
